Life up North

The cold weather won this time

For a few days now, I've been saying that I wanted to go see the Olympic torch when it arrived here in the north. So when I woke up this morning, I turned the television on right away to watch the marathon as I fed Eva her early morning breakfast. As i watched CP24 with their coverage, I couldn't help when my spirits were lowered when they kept talking about how cold it is outside. By the time 8am rolled around, I was thisclose to calling up my mom to ask her to come here in 1/2 an hour to watch the baby so Benjoe and I can partake in this once in a lifetime opportunity. But I never called her.. citing the cold weather and Benjoe's bad cough. I couldn't reason enough with myself to brace the chill. I am kicking myself a bit now when it looks like the whole town of Stouffville turned out on Main St to catch glimpse of the Olympic torch. I guess I just have to keep telling myself that I was just trying to be a good mother... And the gold medal goes to the cold!

My First Christmas...

....hamon! Yesterday I got a call from the head at Lorna Rae telling me to come pick up my ham. I was a little surprised that I was getting my very own as every year before, I was used to just my parents getting theirs! But this year, I don't know if it's because we're in our own place now or because we're finally married, that we got our very own! Whatever the reason... I'm just glad I don't have to share it with 10 other people (not including mom's side that comes over on the holidays and slices their pieces of ham while taking all the glaze!) just with my other 3 ham lovers here in the north! I looked over at Euge today eating his ham dinner and we both agreed that this thing won't last long in this house! I better make sure I get my share,so can someone please pass the pandesal and cheese over here?! **Thanks Big "V" for our very first ham!**

Joy's Dirty 30!!

Last night we celebrated the last of the dirty 30's of '09 for Joy! Euge and I started the night out with dinner at Wah Sing with our fave's the King's. Since we were pretty early for a night out and one order of lobster already done, we decided to go for another round. (sorry no pics, my hands were too covered with ginger and onions to pull out the camera!) We then headed out to Parkdale Drink and started the night early as we waited for the guest of honour of the night to arrive! (of course, i don't know why we expected her to be on time!) A few drinks later, Joy finally arrived with her special visitor from the west coast. A few MORE drinks later and it was definitely a great night to party! Here's to a great 30th Birthday Ninang Doreen!!
*this post is special for the Canadian Californians who missed Joy's special arrival by a few days!!*

Weekend getaway

Here are a few pics from our Niagara getaway. Some highlights for the weekend was our wedding dinner at the fallsview restaurant at the Sheraton where we stayed which we basically paid money for the view than the food. We came back from dinner to find champagne and strawberries at our room courtesy of the King's. We had the champagne the kids dealt with the strawberries! Swimming as usual and Hannah finding a new favourite restaurant in IHOP! She loves her breakfast food! Euge and I were even able to take turns at the casino while the children slept...too bad the only jackpot we got that weekend was getting married!

Our special day

Saturday was a special day for our family. Earlier this year, Euge and I decided that when we brought Eva to the church to be baptized, we would also make it official at the same time. And so we did! It was a small intimate wedding with our close family and friends, followed by some quality Taguibao family time in Niagara Falls. And although we didn't have any big celebration after the ceremony, it didn't stop others in celebrating without us! I thought at first that it would not be any different being married except for the added weight on mine and Eugene's left hand. But now as it has been a few days, I have so much gratitude for my family, and even an overprotectiveness for them. I have a sense of wanting to always keep my family safe, so much more now then before, as my family is now "complete" or whole. Fr. Max had described it perfectly during the homily, using the analogy of our family with Jesus turning the water into wine. We are now blessed in our union, not just as a couple but as a family. Thanks to all our family and friends, both near and far, who came to bear witness on our special day. Your love, guidance and support over the years, for us and our children, have made it possible for us to make it to today.
